Mummies and witches and pumpkins, Oh my!

So I’m usually a big fan of Halloween. It’s actually kind of funny because I hate scary movies, I don’t visit haunted attractions and I don’t get trick-or-treaters at my house…

Anyway, I was sick over the weekend and the weather Hurricane Sandy brought to Ohio has been dismal, so I haven’t had any projects to get in the spirit. Last night my husband convinced me that I should at least bake a little something for the holiday. We had the stuff to make sugar cookies and a batch of icing, so….

Of COURSE that led to a full-blown trip to the store to buy Halloween Funfetti Cupcake mix, stuff for another batch of icing, candy eyes, fudgestripe cookies and kisses for witch hats, etc.

Three hours later my table was covered in orange, brown, white and black icing, but I’m glad I took the plunge. These treats are pretty darn cute and it definitely made my Halloween a little better!

Bark Bash photo shoot

As a volunteer with Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue, I started doing “photo booths” at events. Essentially the presenting organization sets up a tent/hay/cornstalks, etc. and I take the pictures. I donate all my time and I email the photos (so there’s no overhead) and the organization gets all the donations.

This weekend I did just such a photo booth at the Louie’s, ABC’s of Bullies and Cincinnati Pit Crew’s Bark Bash in West Chester, Ohio. It was a BRISK day and I was fighting a pretty bad cold, but I’d still say it was a success.

I’m not sure how much money I helped raise, but I had about 20 to 25 groups who took part in the photo booth fun. It was a ton of fun and I got to meet a bunch of great pooches.

I emailed the photos out this morning, but I also put some on Facebook. The album is public, so you should be able to see it. Check it out here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.385093331560773.84367.382926461777460&type=1&l=b54b28a753.

Maternity shoot wrap-up

My first maternity shoot was Tuesday and I think it went quite well. I met with Jaclyn, who is 37 weeks pregnant, at her house, set-up the portable studio and headed outside for the last of the sunlight.

We started with just a few photos of her. Not all of them are “maternity shots” – including my favorite of the bunch, which is just a headshot of her. We tried blowing bubbles, playing with her young son, family shots, all sort of poses, etc. It was a really fun, learning experience for me. I’m sending her the CD of edited photos today!

I just want to thank Jaclyn, her husband and her little boy for taking the time to be my muses for the day. Thanks guys!

Here are a few of the photos I uploaded to Facebook. I hate how Facebook makes BW photos so grainy! Link: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10100118128566710.2243344.50900860&type=1&l=d656a2dc54.

Also, I just created a KellieWorks Facebook page and would like you to “like” it for me. That’s where I’ll be sharing a majority of my work from here on out. I’ll still be posting links to this site, but they’ll be on Facebook first! Thanks! www.facebook.com/kellieworksphotography

Fun shoot tonight – maternity meets glamour and family

So I have a pretty fun shoot lined up for tonight – my first maternity shoot plus a little ‘up close’ glamour and shots with her husband and little one! I’m pretty excited!

Even though I’ve never done a shoot quite like this before, Jackie is a friend from high school and she’ll be a great test subject. We’re going to try some outdoor pictures (if the light and weather hold) as well as a few with the studio kit.

I’ll put a few photos up tomorrow. Any suggestions for tonight? I think I’ll be spending some time on Pinterest today… 😀

In the park and the studio with Seth and Luke

I had a shoot last night with two rambunctious boys, and it was TOO fun! We started around dinner time in the park out in Harrison. The lack of water in the area has made it hard to find backdrops full of fall color – there are lots of leaf-less trees – but we found just enough to make these portraits work.

Following lots of leaf throwing and hill rolling, the boys were ready to head back home. They took a little photo break while I set up the portable studio at their house – blue and black backgrounds. They were pretty amazed at how fast it went up and, of course, how BRIGHT the lights were!

I edited the photos this morning and posted about a quarter of them on Facebook, since I’m mailing the mom a photo CD. Check them out here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10100115035026190.2242837.50900860&type=1&l=8a27de8ffe.

Lemon and Green Tea Cupcakes? Oh yes!

I tried another new cupcake flavor this weekend – Lemon and Green Tea!

The basis for this recipe came from a new cupcake cookbook my best friend got me for my birthday a couple weeks ago. I was a little unsure about a recipe with so much lemon and no milk, but I’m happy with the way they came out. AND they are pretty!

Check them out in my Facebook gallery. It’s public, so you should be able to see them!

Are you looking for that priceless photo to send with your holiday cards? Do you have a senior already antsy for graduation? Or do you just need to catch up on those annual photos of your little ones? If you live in Greater Cincinnati, drop me a line!

Whatever your photo needs, now is the time to contact me! I have experience with kids, teens, adults, families, pets (and families with pets) and more. Just use my email on the contact page to reach me most easily. I can tailor a on-location studio or outdoor shoot (or both!) to fit your needs and your budget. Just send me an email and I’ll get you a no-hidden-charges quote based on the number of people in your photos, the type of photos you’re looking for, the number of outfit changes, etc.

NOTES: I specialize in evening and weekend appointments. Most shoots (especially senior pictures or group shots of the family with no individual pictures) take about 90 minutes for indoor and outdoor options. Studio photos are taken at-your-location with a portable lighting and backdrop set.

Take a look at a few of my individual pictures on my photography page!
